Reiki (pronounced ray-key) was rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui in the mid 19th century. It actually dates back several thousands of years to ancient Tibetan Buddhist Sutras or records.
Rei is a Japanese word which means "universal" and is also a reference to a higher dimension of light and soul. Ki is the Japanese word for vital life force energy. Ki is non-physical energy that animates all living things. As long as something is alive, it has life energy circulating through it and around it. If your life energy is low, or if there is a restriction in its flow, you are more vulnerable to illness. When it is high, and flowing freely, you are less likely to get sick. Life energy plays an important role in everything we do. It animates the body and has higher levels of expression. Ki is also the primary energy of our emotions, thoughts and spiritual life.
Reiki is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to use Reiki. It enhances the appreciation and understanding of all religions and philosophies by adding greater natural light to the comprehension and practice of each one's chosen pathway.
